PRNigeria Fellowship: A Journey Worth Every Mile

Sometimes, life-changing opportunities arrive in the most ordinary ways. Mine began with a simple WhatsApp message from my twin brother. He sent me a link to apply for the 2026 PRNigeria Young Communication Fellowship. Without much hesitation, I opened it, read through the details and submitted my application.

At the time, it felt like just another opportunity worth trying. I had no idea that a few minutes spent completing an online application would soon become the beginning of one of the most memorable experiences of my professional journey.

A few days after applications closed, I came across a post on the PRNigeria WhatsApp Channel announcing that the fellowship had attracted 691 applications for only 30 available slots across its three centres in Abuja, Kano and Ilorin.

The figures were intimidating.
Competition was obviously intense, and my confidence immediately began to fade.

As I continued reading, I discovered that applicants had come from every geopolitical zone in Nigeria, with the North-West, North-East and North-Central recording the highest number of entries. Since I had applied for the Ilorin cohort in the North-Central zone, I quietly concluded that my chances of being selected were slim.

I told myself not to expect anything. Life moved on.

A few weeks later, I reported to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp in Awgu, Enugu State, to begin my mandatory national service. Then came the email that changed everything. I had been selected.

For a few moments, I simply stared at the notification in disbelief.
