The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has approved the start of National Diploma (ND) programme in Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the Kwara State Polytechnic.

This is contained in a statement signed by Mrs Halima Garba, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Kwarapoly, on Tuesday, in Ilorin.

Garba said that the Rector, Mr Abdul Jimoh disclosed the news at the opening ceremony of the 7th Annual International Conference of the Institute of Applied Sciences of the Polytechnic.

The programme, she said, would commence during the next academic session of the institution.

Garba said that the conference brought together academicians, professionals and other stakeholders to deliberate on the growing impact and applications of artificial intelligence.

“The Rector noted that artificial intelligence was rapidly transforming virtually every aspect of human behaviour and activities.

“He expressed confidence that participants would gain valuable knowledge from the papers and lectures to be presented at the conference, ” she said.

The institution’s spokesperson quoted Jimoh as calling for ideas, research papers, and other scholarly contributions from participants that could support the successful take-off of the new programme in Artificial Intelligence.

He stressed that any contribution capable of adding value to the programme would be welcomed.

Garba said that the approval by NBTE was expected to position the Polytechnic as one of the early adopters of AI education at the ND level in the country.
