Five-time world champions, Golden Eaglets of Nigeria, have been placed in Group B of next month’s WAFU-B U17 Championship, www.aclsports.com reports.
The Nigeria U17 side, who have failed to qualify for the past two AFCON tournaments, will be hoping to reach the finals this time around under the guidance of Coach Eboboritse Uwejamomere.
The draw was conducted on Thursday at Stade du 4-Août in Ouagadougou, with seven nations divided into two groups for the qualifying tournament. Nigeria will face Côte d’Ivoire and Niger in Group B, while hosts Burkina Faso have been placed in Group A alongside Benin Republic, Ghana and Togo.
Meanwhile, the team continued their preparations for the tournament with impressive wins in friendly matches over the past weekend. They thumped Simoiben Academy 4-0 at the FIFA Goal Project pitch inside the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, before a goalless draw against Galadima FC.
This year’s WAFU-B U17 Championship is slated for 4th – 17th October in Ouagadougou, the capital city of Burkina Faso, where only the two finalists will be representing the zone at the AFCON in Morocco next year.
