1. Find a Good Tailor — and Keep Their Number
This may be the most useful fashion relationship you ever have. Clothes are produced according to standard measurements; bodies, thankfully, are not. Your waist may be one size and your hips another. Your arms may be slightly shorter than the sleeves on most blazers.
A good tailor can take in a waist, shorten a sleeve, adjust a shoulder, move a button or give a dress a cleaner line. Even relatively inexpensive clothes can look considerably more polished when they fit properly.
And no, tailoring is not only for special-occasion clothes. Those everyday trousers you wear constantly deserve it too.
2. Get Your Trouser Length Right
Nothing ruins a great pair of trousers faster than the wrong length.
Wide-leg trousers should skim rather than sweep the floor. Cropped trousers need to look deliberately cropped, not as though you accidentally bought them too short. With jeans, the ideal length depends on the cut and the shoes you intend to wear.
