Access Holdings has dismissed reports claiming that its subsidiary, Access Bank, is shutting down operations, describing the circulating publication as false and warning that those responsible will face legal action.
The company issued the clarification in a statement addressed to the Nigerian Exchange (NGX), shareholders, investors, and the general public after the misleading report gained traction on social media.
According to Access Holdings, neither it nor Access Bank issued or authorised the publication, stressing that the information was completely fabricated.
The financial institution reassured customers that Access Bank remains fully operational and financially sound, adding that there has been no disruption to its banking services or change in its financial position.
The company also emphasised that its banking operations continue as normal and urged customers not to act on unverified claims circulating online.
Investigation underway
Access Holdings said it has reported the matter to relevant regulatory agencies, security authorities, and law enforcement bodies for investigation.
The company disclosed that efforts are already underway to identify those responsible for creating and distributing the false report. It added that appropriate legal action would be taken against anyone found to have deliberately spread the misinformation.
By escalating the matter to authorities, Access Holdings signalled that it considers the incident more than a case of online misinformation, describing it as a threat capable of undermining confidence in the country’s financial system.
