Corporate security used to be a hardware problem. You bought an appliance, put it in the data centre, and every packet that mattered passed through it. That model started breaking the moment staff began working from home in Nairobi, from a co-working space in Accra, or from a phone on a 4G connection somewhere with no office network in sight.
Across the continent, IT teams have been dealing with a specific version of this. Bandwidth is expensive, backhauling all traffic to a single gateway wastes it, and a growing share of the workforce uses personal devices the company does not own. Cloud-delivered security services emerged to handle exactly that gap: instead of routing everything home, the inspection happens in the cloud, close to the user.
The client software on the device is what makes that work. It is small, it is usually invisible once configured, and it decides what leaves the phone or laptop and where it goes first.
Where the Zscaler App sits in the security stack
The Zscaler App for Android bundles two modules that do different jobs. Zscaler Internet Access handles outbound traffic to the public internet, applying policy and threat inspection before a request reaches its destination. Zscaler Private Access covers the other direction: reaching internal applications without dropping the user onto a full corporate network.
That split matters more than it sounds. Traditional remote access hands a device broad network reach and hopes the endpoint is clean. The private-access approach connects a user to a named application instead, which limits what a compromised phone can touch.
