The shift I am seeing in product management
One of the biggest changes I have witnessed in product management is how quickly the role is moving from managing processes to making smarter decisions.
When I first began thinking about what makes a great product manager, the answer was always connected to understanding customers, prioritising problems, working with teams, and making difficult trade-offs. Those responsibilities have not changed. What has changed is the environment in which product managers operate and the tools available to support those decisions.
Throughout the years, product management has continuously evolved alongside technology. The way we conduct research, analyse customer behaviour, plan roadmaps, and measure success has changed as new tools have emerged. Artificial intelligence represents another major shift in that evolution.
Today, AI is changing how product managers gather insights, understand customer needs, experiment with ideas, and make strategic decisions. Tasks that once required hours of manual analysis can now be accelerated through intelligent systems that help teams identify patterns, summarise information, and uncover opportunities more quickly.
However, I do not believe AI is changing the purpose of product management. It is changing the way we approach it.
The future product manager will not be defined by how much information they can collect or how many tasks they can complete manually. Instead, they will be defined by their ability to ask better questions, interpret insights, make thoughtful…
