African startups raised at least $443.43 million across 13 disclosed deals in August 2026, according to an updated analysis of the funding dataset compiled for the month. The revised figures strengthen North Africa’s position following the inclusion of Egyptian fintech ValU’s $20.7 million raise, while Nigeria remained by far the largest destination for startup capital.

Despite funding spanning four African regions and ten industries, August’s numbers remained highly concentrated. Moove’s $250 million round alone accounted for 56.4% of all capital recorded, showing how a single megadeal can significantly influence monthly African startup funding statistics.

East Africa recorded $3.7 million, contributed by Kenya-based Cordia Directions, while no Central African deal appeared in the dataset.

The geographical spread illustrates that while funding activity exists across the continent, capital remains heavily concentrated in Africa’s more established startup markets.

Nigeria captures more than 80% of funding

At country level, Nigeria raised $362.43 million across six startups, giving it an 81.7% share of August’s recorded capital.

Moove led with $250 million, followed by Jumia at $50 million, Yellow Card at $40 million, Terra Industries with $18 million, ThriveAgric with $3.93…
