Beyoncé has never been afraid to switch up her hairstyles. From her Destiny’s Child days to her solo superstar era, Queen Bey has given us braids, bobs, ponytails, curls, cornrows and enough blonde shades to fill an entire color chart. Somehow, every era manages to feel completely different while still looking unmistakably Beyoncé. Check out Beyoncé’s iconic hairstyles throughout the years.

Beyoncé’s relationship with hair also runs deeper than red carpets and stage performances. As she revealed through the journey of building her own hair care brand Cécred, Beyoncé grew up working in her mother’s Houston salon, Headliners.

In a feature on WWD, they quoted Beyoncé’s Instagram photo saying, “How many of y’all knew my first job was sweeping hair at my mama’s salon?”

As InStyle notes, she has worn her hair natural, straightened, braided, colored, woven and wigged throughout her career. All while maintaining the health of her natural hair. Her ability to make each transformation feel like a moment is also part of what makes her beauty legacy so memorable.

From her early Y2K looks to the blonde bombshell aesthetic that defined the Renaissance era, here is a timeline of Beyoncé’s most iconic hairstyles.
