A father has been arrested in Okpanam community, Delta State, after allegedly using a cable wire to severely fl%g his two-year-old daughter, Blessing Obi, for failing to greet him in the morning.
The suspect, an indigene of Okija, Anambra State, was arrested on Thursday, August 27, 2026, following an alarm raised by the child’s mother over the alleged abuse.
According to the mother, the incident happened shortly after the family’s morning prayers. She alleged that her husband became vi%lent after the toddler failed to greet him.
The father reportedly tied the little girl’s hands with wire before using another wire to fl%g her repeatedly. The alleged assault left the child with visible injuries and deep scars across different parts of her body.
Filmmaker and human rights activist Stanley Ajemba, popularly known as Stanley Ontop, reportedly intervened after the mother’s outcry and worked with law enforcement officers, leading to the suspect’s arrest and detention.
Police investigations into the alleged child abuse are ongoing.
