The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reduced its ex-depot price for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)—commonly known as cooking gas—from ₦1,100 to ₦970 per kilogram, marking a ₦130 reduction.

This downward adjustment aims to ease household and small business pressures against rising energy costs and encourage wider adoption of clean cooking fuel across Nigeria.

Market Implications & Retail Outlook

  • Pressure on Marketers: The wholesale price cut is expected to compel downstream marketers and independent distributors to review their retail pricing structures.

  • Logistics Variables: While ex-depot prices have dropped, final retail costs paid by households will continue to vary based on local transportation, storage, and operational overhead across different regions.

  • Energy Transition Alignment: Expanding access to affordable LPG supports Nigeria’s national energy transition goals by reducing dependence on traditional biomass and firewood.
