Three projects from Africa have been selected by the Cannes sidebar Directors’ Fortnight. While the sole feature from the continent is Clarissa by the Esiri brothers, two other projects have been programmed in the short and medium-length segment of the sidebar.
Sudanese director Ibrahim Omar will screen his fiction project Nothing Happens After Your Absence. This project follows his 2024 film, Nothing Happens After That. Also playing in the section is In Search of the Grey Bird with Green Stripes, a short documentary from Moroccan-French director Saïd Hamich Benlarbi. Benlarbi’s 2024 film, Across the Sea, received a special screening in the Critics’ Week section two years ago.
According to the organisers, the coming edition of the Directors’ Fortnight will feature projects “from 19 countries on five continents, with notable contributions from a number of countries with little or no international exposure, such as Nigeria, Sudan, Guatemala, Venezuela and Cyprus”.
The 2026 Cannes Film Festival runs from May 12th until May 23rd.
