The Spanish La Liga is one of the biggest leagues in the world, and has been home to some of the best players in football history, including some of the best Super Eagles legs, Soccernet.ng reports.

Two of the best clubs in the country — Real Madrid and Barcelona — have produced some of the best legs in the game, and often house the winner of the top individual and continental prizes.

Meanwhile, several Nigerian players have left their mark on Spain’s top flight over the years, but only a handful have done so as prolifically in front of goal. In this article, we write about thefive highest-scoring Super Eagles players in La Liga history.

Super Eagles’ Highest Goalscorers in La Liga History

1. Christopher Ohenhen – 48 goals

Ohenhen sits at the very top of the list, having built his tally almost entirely during a standout spell with Compostela in the 1990s. His 17-goal haul in the 1996-97 season remains the single-season scoring record for any Nigerian in La Liga history. Ohenhen is not exactly a staple name among Nigerian fans in this generation, but he definitely pulled up trees in Spain, and no one has been able to break his record yet.

2. Finidi George – 43 goals

Finidi George was a key part of Nigeria’s golden generation in the 1990s. He spent most of his career in Nigeria, Spain and the Netherlands, where he won the UEFA Champions League with Ajax.

Finidi scored 43 goals in 175 La Liga appearances across spells with Real Betis and Real Mallorca. He was known for his ability to combine consistent end product with the flair that made him one of Nigeria’s most iconic wingers. Till today, he is seen as a cult hero at Betis.
