Tinubu’s US recognition reflects deeper anti-terror partnership — Presidency

The Presidency has said that the recognition accorded President Bola Tinubu by United States President Donald Trump reflects the deepening security partnership between Nigeria and the United States, insisting that the collaboration has produced measurable gains in the fight against terrorism.

Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, whil3 speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, said the letter from President Trump was not merely a diplomatic courtesy but an acknowledgement of the progress recorded through intelligence sharing, joint military operations and capacity building between both countries.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Tuesday, Bwala said the letter recognised the results of an increasingly robust security collaboration.

“It is the recognition of the result of a collaboration that has assumed a very deeper and commendable level. The second-in-command in ISIS globally was eliminated in Nigeria because of the joint operation. We eliminated and stopped their attacks because of the joint operation. We have deepened the collaboration to a point where we share intelligence, we have local training, and then you have the strike,” Bwala said.

He added that the correspondence “typifies, exemplifies, and explains the progress we have made so far with the United States,” noting that Nigeria is building similar strategic relationships with other countries.

The presidential aide said the government’s focus remained on improving the lives of Nigerians rather than responding to criticisms from the opposition.

“Nigerian people tonight want to know what is happening with their economy, with their education, and most importantly with security. And we have made substantial progress,” he said.
