Super Falcons vs Egypt: How Nigeria can reach WAFCON 2026 QF – Permutations & qualification paths

The Super Falcons have reached the point where there is no room for error at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nigeria will take on Egypt on Wednesday, August 5, at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat, Morocco, with kick-off scheduled for 9:00 p.m. WAT. It is the final Group C match of WAFCON 2026 and the result will decide whether the defending champions continue their journey towards an 11th African title or suffer an early exit.

After two dramatic rounds of matches, Group C remains one of the most unpredictable groups at the tournament. Malawi, already the competition’s biggest surprise package, sit at the top with six points after winning both of its opening matches. Zambia and Nigeria each have three points, although Zambia holds a superior goal difference of +5 compared to Nigeria’s zero. Egypt, after heavy defeats in their first two games, are bottom of the table without a point and carry a goal difference of -8.

Nigeria’s campaign has been anything but straightforward. The Super Falcons were stunned 3-2 by tournament debutants Malawi in their opening fixture, a result that immediately put pressure on head coach Justine Madugu and his players.

The response, however, showed the fighting spirit that has made Nigeria the most successful team in African women’s football. Facing Zambia in a must-win encounter, the Falcons secured a tense 1-0 victory thanks to Asisat Oshoala’s early strike in the eighth minute. The experienced forward’s goal revived Nigeria’s hopes of reaching the knockout stages.

Now another victory is needed, and preferably by a comfortable margin, as goal difference could still become important depending on the outcome of the other Group C fixture between Malawi and Zambia.
