Tension over clashing campaign dates was doused in Osun on Friday after the Commissioner of Police in charge of the governorship election, CP Samuel Erale Etaifo, brokered peace between the Accord Party and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the Command said CP Etaifo convened a strategic meeting with the leadership of both parties to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
“The meeting, held in an atmosphere of mutual understanding and cooperation, was aimed at preventing any situation that could lead to a breakdown of law and order or unnecessary confrontation between supporters of the two political parties,” the statement said.
“After deliberations, both parties reached an amicable resolution.”
‘Under the agreement, Accord Party will hold its final campaign rally on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at Fakunle, while the APC will hold its own on
Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Freedom Park.
The intervention came ahead of the August 15 governorship poll, following reports that both parties had scheduled their final rallies for the same period and in locations that could trigger confrontation.
CP Etaifo, however, commended the leadership of both parties for demonstrating maturity, patriotism, and a commitment to peaceful democratic engagement by embracing dialogue over conflict.

He urged all political actors to caution their supporters and loyalists to conduct themselves peacefully before, during, and after the campaigns.
The CP reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force remains neutral and committed to providing adequate security for all lawful political activities.
