Are you relaxed, natural, texturized or texlaxed?
Natural for 8 years.
What’s your story, how did you get to where you are?
We moved from New Orleans to Denver after Hurricane Katrina. That turned our world upside-down and i was fearful for my hair.
I was relaxed back then and was worried the drastic change in climate would create breakage so I stopped relaxing.
Now, for the first three years I was a weave-wearing, wig-sporting, braid-swinging diva but my hair suffered as a result.
By the end of year three I scarily decided to take the plunge and become a full natural and just wear it out. I had already BC (although I had no idea what that was. I was just cutting off the damaged hair) so I threw some products in my hair and put a scarf on my TWA.
What is your typical weekly regimen?
I no longer use shampoo and haven’t since I started the Curly Girl Method back in January.
I cleanse my hair weekly with a cleansing conditioner (As I Am Coconut Cowash*) and use shea moisture products* and kinky curly products*. I wet my hair and cowash (not cleansing) about two or three times a week year around. I wear the wash and go.
Are you happy with your progress so far?
Very! I’m really happy because after I embraced the CGM, I began seeing more definition, moisture and growth.
