He Broke Up With Me Over A Failed Hair Cut

I like to think I’m a pretty good self-taught hair stylist. I’ve shared accounts before about how a hair salon visit gone wrong lead me to do research and learning out to do my own hair. This included anything from cutting, coloring and even relaxing my own hair.

I haven’t had my share of other people to test my skills out on, which is why when I was given the opportunity with a guy I’ve been dating I jumped at the chance.

Earlier in the day, Chris* was talking about how he needed to go to the barbershop to get his hair cut. I agreed that it was time and threw out that he should let me do it. I dug myself into a bigger hole by showing him photos of my own hair when I used to cut my own pixie myself, edge ups and all. He seemed tempted to take me up on my word but just responded that he doesn’t trust me. I was low-key joking anyway so end of discussion.

Later that night, he invited me over for a movie night and half way through surprised me by saying come on let’s see what skills you have with the clippers.

Um, wait really?! Clippers in my hand he let me start by giving him an edge up and trim his beard. Easy enough, right? The line was already set, so I just needed to clean it up.

I had already been drinking a few beers that night so my steadiness was a bit off but I felt confident. I did my thang, or so I thought and gave him the mirror.

He turned his head back and forth while not saying a word. “So…?! What do you think?”

I thought I did a pretty decent job until he asked why was his line “deeper” on one side than the other. Oh, crap! It wasn’t even. How the heck did I mess that up going against the line that was…
