The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has endorsed FIFA’s apology over the handling of the abandoned FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) proposal while unanimously reaffirming its support for FIFA president Gianni Infantino.

CAF announced its position on Thursday after a meeting of its Executive Committee, which endorsed the joint statement issued by Infantino and FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström following the withdrawal of the controversial commercial initiative.

The African football governing body acknowledged FIFA’s admission that mistakes were made in the handling of the FFE proposal, particularly the failure to adequately consult the FIFA Council and the organisation’s 211 member associations.

CAF also welcomed FIFA’s decision to permanently withdraw the proposal and its commitment to conduct an internal review aimed at preventing similar procedural lapses in the future.

“The CAF Executive Committee unanimously endorses the joint update by the FIFA president and secretary general on the FFE,” the confederation said.

It added that it would continue working to strengthen African football while adhering to the highest standards of governance, transparency and accountability.
