Agunechemba raids gunmen’s camps, recovers machine guns in Anambra

Operatives of the Agunechemba Security Squad in Anambra State have dislodged suspected gunmen during raids on their camps in Orumba North and Orumba South Local Government Areas of the state.

The operation led to the recovery of a cache of arms, including two General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs) and a locally made rocket launcher.

The recovered weapons were subsequently handed over to the Nigerian Army.

The development came as the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, commended Governor Charles Soludo for the operations of the Agunechemba Security Squad.

He reiterated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to sustaining its partnership with other security agencies, including Agunechemba, in the fight against crime and criminality in the state.

It was gathered that the breakthrough followed intelligence gathering and undercover operations carried out by the security outfit at major crime flashpoints across Anambra South Senatorial District over the past few days.

The Publicity Secretary of Agunechemba, Mr Nweke Nweke, said in a statement issued on Sunday in Awka that the handover of the recovered weapons underscored the outfit’s commitment to combating crime and improving security in the state.

“The transfer took place on August 2 at the office of the Director of Operations in Awka, led by Chief Chinenye Ihenko,” he said.

According to the statement, the Director of Operations described the transfer of the recovered weapons as a demonstration of the strong partnership between the Nigerian Army and Agunechemba.

“He emphasised the importance of working closely with federal security agencies and pledged to sustain collaborative efforts to strengthen security in the state,” the statement added.
