Police bust organ harvesting ring, arrest two doctors, two others in Nasarawa

Ani Iniedu, Force Public Relations Officer, , disclosed this in a statement, saying the suspects were paraded on Thursday following their arrest by operatives of the Special Tactical Squad.

The Police said the arrests followed credible intelligence received by the police concerning the activities of the suspected syndicate.

It said operatives of the squad subsequently launched a sting operation at about 6pm on August 19, 2026, in Auta Balifi, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, leading to the arrest of the four suspects.

The police also recovered clothes allegedly purchased with proceeds from the criminal activities, which were retained as exhibits to support the ongoing investigation.

The suspects were identified as Emmanuel Ode, 23, of Auta Balifi, Nasarawa State; Dr Benjamin Oyime, 48, from Edo State, a nephrologist and kidney consultant and consultant to Wellington Hospital, Life Camp, Abuja; Dr Daniel Otukpa, 53, from Benue State, also a nephrologist and Acting Director of Clinical Services at Wellington Hospital; and David Idoko, 25.

According to the police, preliminary investigations and interrogation of the suspects have provided information on how members of the alleged syndicate recruited victims and facilitated the removal of their kidneys.

The Force said Ode confessed to recruiting victims under false pretences.

It allegedly told investigators that on April 24, 2026, he lured a 22-year-old man identified as Samuel Ezekiel to Wellington Hospital in Life Camp, Abuja, where the victim’s kidney was allegedly harvested.

The police said Ode disclosed that the kidney was harvested for $1,250, which it put at approximately N1.7 million based on the prevailing exchange rate.
