A new generation of smaller investors is changing the mechanics of trading on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX), with digital investment platform Bamboo accounting for about one in every five equity transactions executed on the exchange in the first seven months of 2026.
Data contained in the NGX Broker Performance Report show that 17.3 million equity deals were recorded between January and July, with Lambeth Capital Limited, Bamboo’s Nigerian brokerage partner, accounting for 3.85 million transactions.
The volume gives Lambeth Capital the highest number of deals among leading brokers, even though the value of transactions processed through the firm was significantly lower than that of brokers serving predominantly institutional investors.
Lambeth Capital handled N262.99 billion worth of equities during the period, translating to an average transaction size of approximately N68,300.
CardinalStone Securities recorded N1.63 trillion in equity transactions through 944,888 deals, while First Securities Brokers led the overall broker ranking with a 13.5 percent weighted market share.
First Securities’ average transaction size was approximately N5.94 million, underscoring its stronger exposure to large institutional transactions.
Lambeth’s average ticket of N68,300 illustrates the different economics of digital retail trading: smaller amounts, but substantially higher transaction frequency.
The growth in transaction volumes is consistent with the rise in domestic retail participation.
NGX data show that domestic retail investors traded N2.86 trillion worth of equities between January and May 2026, representing a 138 percent increase from the corresponding period in 2025.
