UCL Roundup: Real Madrid win, Haaland stars for Man City, Villa stun Brugge

Jose Mourinho marked his return to the UEFA Champions League with a winning start on Tuesday as Real Madrid recorded a 2-1 win against Inter Milan 2-1, while Erling Haaland scored twice to inspire Manchester City to a 2-0 victory at Porto.

Aston Villa also secured a crucial 3-2 win at Club Brugge to claim their first victory of the season.

Mbappe, Valverde seal Real Madrid win

Real Madrid raced into a two-goal lead at the Santiago Bernabéu midway through the first half after errors from the Inter defence.

Yann Bisseck’s mistake allowed Kylian Mbappé to open the scoring on his 99th Champions League appearance.

The goal took Mbappé’s Champions League tally to 71, drawing him level with Real Madrid legend Raúl.

Real doubled their advantage when Inter goalkeeper Josep Martínez attempted to turn away from Fede Valverde inside his six-yard box. Valverde dispossessed him and fired into an empty net.

Carlos Augusto pulled one back for Inter, but Madrid held on for the points.

Haaland strikes twice as City beat Porto

Manchester City secured a 2-0 away win over Portuguese champions Porto through a second-half brace from Haaland.

The Norwegian striker headed in Enzo Fernández’s cross two minutes after the restart, then sealed the victory in stoppage time.

Haaland has now scored 59 goals in 59 Champions League appearances, underlining his remarkable record in Europe’s elite competition.
