Raven-Symoné Now And Then: From Child Star To Urban Legend

Long before she was predicting the future on Disney Channel, Raven-Symoné was already a familiar face on television. As a child, she joined The Cosby Show as Olivia Kendall, becoming part of one of television’s biggest sitcoms. But that was only the opening act. Raven wasn’t destined to remain the cute kid from a family sitcom. She was on her way to becoming an actress, singer, producer, director and, eventually, one of Disney Channel’s most recognizable stars. 

Let’s take a look back at the career of Raven-Symoné from then until now.

Raven-Symoné  Now And Then: The Disney era that changed everything.

In 2003, Raven stepped into the role that would define a generation: Raven Baxter on That’s So Raven.

The premise was wonderfully chaotic. Raven could see glimpses of the future, but instead of using her powers to save the world, she usually found herself trying to survive school, friendships, family drama and whatever ridiculous situation her latest vision had created. Fans would grow to adore the actress’s signature catch phrase, “Ya Nasty!” which the star recently shared how she created.

“I was on [the] upteenth take of a scene and I was low key irritated so period’d the sentence with ‘Ya nasty,’” the 40-year-old revealed in a TikTok video published July 21. 

The show ran for four seasons from 2003 to 2007, turning Raven into a bona fide Disney star. More importantly, Disney wasn’t simply giving her a starring role — Raven was helping shape the entire brand around her. At just 19, she became a producer on the series.
