DStv ushers in the “Expect+” era under Canal+ – Innovation Village

Following its monumental R50 billion acquisition by French media giant Canal+ in late 2025, MultiChoice is officially transforming the DStv experience. Driven by an ambitious R1.9 billion turnaround “boost plan,” DStv has unveiled a revamped brand identity. The new slogan, “Expect+”, not only aligns visually with its new parent company but also signals a promise to deliver more focused value to subscribers.

A Streamlined Approach to Viewer Tastes

For 15 years, DStv’s subscription tiers remained largely static, eventually becoming unwieldy and confusing for modern audiences. MultiChoice CEO Wellington Ngwepe emphasized that these sweeping changes are a direct response to evolving consumer habits and widespread feedback.

Ngwepe noted:

We’ve engaged with customers and heard the message loud and clear. They want more value and a simplified offering. What we are providing is something built around customer needs, rather than overlapping packages that try to be something for everybody.

Importantly, Ngwepe clarified that traditional Direct-to-Home (DTH) satellite pricing remains unchanged. The new, tailored pricing structures are specifically designed to overhaul DStv’s streaming offerings.

Revamped Channels and Fresh Content

To support its new packages, DStv is introducing fresh channels, restructuring its movie offerings, and rebranding its sports network to enhance clarity:

  • Expanded Entertainment: Introduction of the Wethu+ channel, alongside third-party additions like France24 and Church TV.
  • Movie Channel Restructure: A revamped cinematic lineup featuring M-Net Movies+, M-Net Movies Stars, and M-Net Movies Legends.
  • Sports Channel Rebranding: New additions like SuperSport Kickoff join renamed channels including SuperSport Football Plus, SuperSport Africa,…
