Sunderland set to sign Fofana, as Arsenal miss out

Lyon winger Malick Fofana is on his way to undergo a medical at Sunderland after a verbal agreement was reached between the clubs.

According to reports, the deal is worth €30 million plus add-ons, a figure accepted by Lyon. Arsenal had shown interest but were not prepared to meet a higher package of €35–40 million.

Arsenal had also been linked with the young attacker but were unwilling to meet Lyon’s higher valuation of €35–40 million.

Fofana is now expected to complete his medical before finalising the move to the Stadium of Light.

The signing would represent a major statement of ambition from Sunderland as they look to strengthen their squad with a highly rated young attacker capable of making an immediate impact.

The development will be seen as a missed opportunity by some Arsenal supporters, as the Gunners opt against matching the asking price for the highly rated French winger.
