Kabir Ibrahim, a prominent voice in Nigeria’s agricultural sector and former President of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) and the Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN) has died in Istanbul, Turkey. He was 67.
Ibrahim, who was serving as chairman of the Nigeria Agriculture Business Group, (NABG) reportedly died following complications after undergoing prostate surgery. The announcement of his death was posted on NABG’s LinkedIn page.
He was a leading advocate for farmers, food production and agribusiness in Nigeria for more than two decades.
Between 2008 and 2012 he led PAN, and from 2014 to 2025 he served as president of AFAN, the country’s largest umbrella body for farmers.
In 2024 he became chairman of NABG, where he pushed for private-sector participation and policy reforms in agriculture.
Born in 1959 in Faskari, Katsina State, Ibrahim trained as an architect. He attended GSS Katsina, did his A-Levels at KCAST Zaria, and earned both BSc and MSc degrees in Architecture from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, between 1978 and 1983.
After National Youth Service in Owerri in 1983/84, he founded the consulting firm Kebram Associates in 1987 and became a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Architects.
He later diversified into agriculture, establishing Kebram Farms Ltd in 2001 and Kebram Agritrade Ltd in 2008.
His work spanned poultry, crop production and agri-trade, and he frequently granted interviews to highlight challenges around inputs, financing, insecurity and food security facing Nigerian farmers.
