Arokodare bags brace in debut, Ajax books Conference League spot

Tolu Arokodare marked his full competitive debut in style, bagging a brace to propel Ajax into the UEFA Europa Conference League group phase with a thrilling 5-3 second-leg victory over FC Sion on Thursday night.

The Nigerian international, who arrived on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer, proved to be the difference-maker as the Dutch heavyweights secured a commanding 9-5 aggregate triumph.

Arokodare made his presence felt on the stroke of halftime, latching onto a pinpoint cross from Abdellah Ouazane before calmly slotting home to give Ajax their third goal of the evening.

The dynamic duo struck again just six minutes after the restart, with Ouazane turning provider once more to allow Arokodare to sweep home his second and put the tie out of Sion’s reach.

The performance capped off a brilliant two-legged display from the forward, who also tallied a goal and an assist in the first leg.

Since making his summer switch from Molineux, Arokodare has hit the ground running in Amsterdam, racking up an impressive four goals and two assists in just five appearances across all competitions.
