WhatsApp two-step verification gets stronger passkeys

WhatsApp has officially announced several enhanced security features. The two-step verification is getting stronger, as it’ll be a full password from now on. In other words, it’ll be longer, alphanumeric, and with special characters. This will make it very hard to guess.

Apart from the fact that WhatsApp strengthened the two-step verification, it has also done something about the call security. Whenever you pick up a call from someone who isn’t in your contacts, you’ll notice more information about the caller. For instance, you’ll see if their number is from a different country, or if you have any groups in common. This will somehow serve as a protection against scammers. Though, for now, this feature is only coming to Android.

However, WhatsApp prefers users to begin using a passkey. This allows you to log back into your account with your fingerprint, face, or screen lock code as well. According to WhatsApp, it’s the “fastest and most secure way to verify it’s really you, with no codes or PINs”.

You can also add more than one passkey to your account. This is useful if you use both Android and iOS devices. You can do this by going to Settings > Account > Passkeys.
