The opening is a confession disguised as a memory. “I always knew it would end, but it’s so fun to pretend / That you’re just somewhere out there wishing you’re next to me.” The narrator is naming the distance between what she knows and what she wishes. The pre-chorus offers a diagnosis: “Guess a fling is a fling for a reason / Our love went cold with the seasons.” It’s a recognition that the relationship was always temporary, a truth that doesn’t make the memory any less vivid.

The chorus is built on a specific image: “You said I look stunning with the rain on my face / My makeup was running, but you kissed me anyways.” It’s a moment of intimacy that has become a marker of the relationship’s entire arc. The narrator is asking the question that haunts her: “Are you missing kissing in the pouring rain?” It’s a question that can’t be answered, and the narrator knows it.

The second verse adds a layer of specificity: “Feels like it was just July, but it’s September and I / I kinda wanna call you, but I’m scared you’ll let it ring.” The narrator is caught in the gap between the desire to reach out and the fear of rejection.
