NGX Transactions Hit ₦2.37tn in July
Trading activity on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) rose sharply in July 2026, with total transactions hitting ₦2.37 trillion, a 38.17% increase from ₦1.71 trillion in June.
The July performance also represented a 30.45% increase from ₦1.82 trillion in July 2025, according to NGX’s Domestic and Foreign Portfolio Investment Report.
Domestic investors drove the surge, accounting for 94.4% of transactions. Domestic activity rose 46.39% from ₦1.53tn in June to ₦2.24tn in July. Institutional investors recorded the strongest growth, rising 66.18% to ₦1.65tn, while retail transactions increased 9.42% to ₦582.44bn.
Institutional investors represented 74% of domestic transactions, with retail investors at 26%. Foreign investor transactions fell to ₦132.62bn in July from ₦186.79bn in June, with inflows at ₦41.59bn and outflows at ₦91.03bn, resulting in a net outflow of ₦49.44bn.
Year-to-date, total NGX transactions reached ₦11.98tn, nearly double the ₦6.01tn recorded in the same period of 2025. Domestic transactions accounted for ₦10.68tn (89.21%), while foreign transactions stood at ₦1.29tn (10.79%).
Institutional transactions rose to ₦6.71tn in the first seven months of 2026 from ₦2.74tn in 2025, while retail transactions increased to ₦3.97tn from ₦1.99tn. Foreign transactions remained stable at ₦1.29tn, though inflows declined and outflows rose.
The figures highlight strong domestic participation and continued growth in Nigeria’s equities market, with July’s ₦2.37tn activity underscoring the expansion of institutional and retail investor engagement.
