Moffi explains decision to join Bundesliga newcomers Hamburger SV

Nigeria international striker Terem Moffi has expressed his delight after completing a permanent move to Bundesliga newcomers Hamburger SV from French Ligue 1 club OGC Nice.

The 27-year-old forward, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Portuguese giants FC Porto, said Hamburger SV head coach Merlin Polzin played a key role in convincing him to move to Germany.

Moffi revealed that his conversations with Polzin, combined with the club’s history, passionate supporters and ambitions, influenced his decision to join the newly promoted Bundesliga side.

“The coach was really very convincing in our conversations. The location, with its fantastic fans, and the club’s overall direction also played a role in my decision,” Moffi said.

“Even though HSV spent a few years in the second division, the club is still a big name, and that’s true all over the world.

“When I told my father about their interest, he immediately knew which club it was and was full of excitement. I’m even happier now to be part of the history and the club myself.”

Moffi brings top-level experience

Hamburger SV confirmed the signing of Moffi on a permanent transfer from Nice as they prepare for their return to Germany’s top flight.

HSV sporting director Kathleen Krüger said the Nigerian fits the club’s plans and will strengthen their attacking options.

“Terem fits our approach extremely well. With his signing, we are making ourselves even stronger and more versatile in the centre-forward position, thereby increasing the quality of our squad,” Krüger said.
