The People’s Democratic Party Advocates for Peace and Justice (PDP PAPA-J) has expressed concern over what they described as prolonged delay in the rehabilitation of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Complex, despite substantial budgetary provisions for the project.

According to a release signed by Fred Fish, Chairman of the group, and Savior Uko, Secretary, the group said that their concern is inspired by a recent report that the Assembly Complex has remained largely inactive for about nine months, with little visible construction activity, despite N15.47 billion allocated in the 2025 and 2026 budgets for its rehabilitation and remodelling.

They noted that the project was earlier scheduled for completion within six months, ‘.meaning that the deadline expired in April 2026. Yet, the Assembly remains displaced, with lawmakers conducting their activities from alternative locations”

The group frowns at the situation, describing it as disturbing, particularly when the same report indicates that tourism projects around the Ibom Tropicana complex are receiving substantial attention, with combined budgetary provisions of N248.83 billion for the Ibom International Hotel, International Convention Centre, ARISE Shopping City and associated infrastructure.

They questioned the urgency in completion of tourism projects worth N248.83 billion, while the permanent premises of a constitutional arm of government remain unfinished after nine months.
