Atiku Abubakar, Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has pledged to make insecurity, fuel prices and the welfare of Nigerians key priorities of his administration if elected president in the 2027 general elections.

Atiku, a former vice president, said he would use his first 100 days in office to strengthen the country’s security architecture by increasing the number of security personnel and providing them with adequate equipment to confront Boko Haram insurgents, bandits, kidnappers and other criminal groups.

He spoke during a Hausa-language interview on the PAP programme on Wednesday, as political parties intensified their campaigns ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

BusinessDay reports that insecurity remains one of Nigeria’s major challenges, with Boko Haram and ISWAP attacks in the North-East, banditry and kidnapping in the North-West and North Central, separatist issues in the South-East and abductions and other criminal activities in parts of the South-West continuing to threaten lives, livelihoods and economic activities.

Atiku said his administration would respond to the crisis by strengthening the capacity of security agencies and ensuring that personnel deployed to confront terrorists and criminals were adequately equipped.
