Newly promoted English Premier League club Coventry City have confirmed the signing of Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi, Soccernet.ng reports.
News broke on Saturday that Awoniyi was undergoing a medical ahead of a transfer from Nottingham Forest to Coventry City.
The 29-year-old striker originally joined the Tricky Trees from Union Berlin in 2022 and has been a dedicated servant to the club throughout his spell.
Consequently, Nottingham Forest’s players and coaching staff bade him an emotional farewell with a guard of honour before their pre-season friendly against Brest on Sunday. They even gave him the bumps, while fans at the City Ground treated him to a standing ovation.
The transfer was officially confirmed and announced by both clubs.
Coventry City welcomed the Nigerian forward with a striking 22-second announcement video. In the clip, Awoniyi stands in front of a dark backdrop framed by a flowing Nigerian flag before delivering the iconic line: “Super Eagles don land, it had to be Cov.”
