Ben’imana by Rwanda’s Marie-Clémentine Dusabejambo, Congo Boy by Congo’s Rafiki Fariala and La Más Dulce (Strawberries) from French-Moroccan director Laïla Marrakchi are heading to the Cannes Film Festival according to a list released by the festival earlier today.
All three films will be screened in the Un Certain Regard section, which is usually reserved for newcomer filmmakers.
On the list, however, Dusabejambo is the sole debut filmmaker, the others having released projects over the years, including Fariala’s Nous Etudiants (We Students), which showed at the Berlin Film Festival in 2022. Marrakchi appeared in Cannes back in 2005 with her first feature Marock. Her second, Rock the Casbah, premiered at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival.
