The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has pledged the media’s support for the forthcoming National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) summit on the orange economy in the country.
Idris made the commitment on Tuesday when members of the National Executive Course 48 of NIPSS, led by the Institute’s Director-General, Prof. Ayo Omotayo, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that orange economy, also known as the creative economy, refers to economic activities driven largely by creativity, culture, innovation and intellectual property.
The minister described the initiative as timely, saying it would contribute to the development of entrepreneurship and sustainable economic growth in the country.
He said the Ministry of Information and National Orientation would make relevant government agencies available to support the participants in achieving the objectives of the summit.
The minister assured the delegation that the ministry would not allow concerns about the projected cost of media publicity to undermine the success of the programme.
He said the N250 million media support estimate mentioned by the organisers should not discourage them, adding that the ministry would explore broader government support for the initiative.
According to him, the ministry will work with its agencies and other relevant government institutions to ensure that the summit receive adequate publicity and national visibility.
He noted that the Ministry of Information and National Orientation had a responsibility to communicate government policies to Nigerians while also conveying citizens’ views and concerns back to government.
