Anthony Baines, an Uber driver in the Houston area, never expected an ordinary night behind the wheel to turn into a police pursuit. According to NBC affiliate KPRC, shortly after midnight on Aug. 8, Baines was driving through Houston when a shirtless man suddenly sprinted across the road, with two Houston Police Department officers running after him. Dashcam video shared with Storyful captured the unusual encounter that followed.
Here’s what happened during Anthony Baines’ wild Uber ride with officers from the Houston Police Department.
Baines stopped as the officers approached. One of the officers opened his car door and got inside, asking Baines to drive.
“Hey, give me a ride over there please,” the officer can be heard saying in the footage, according to KPRC. “Go, go that way … go go go go go.”
Baines, who kept calm, cool and collected during the wild chase, did as he was told, driving a short distance before stopping so the second officer could get into the vehicle. With both officers now inside, Baines continued driving through the area while they searched for the fleeing suspect.
The officers eventually spotted the man again and immediately got out of the vehicle to continue the pursuit on foot.
