Odio Mimonet Unveils a New Identity at 30 – THISDAY Style

Thirty years after it first began shaping its own distinctive vision of Nigerian luxury, Odio Mimonet is entering a new era. The fashion house, founded by designer Odio Oseni, has unveiled a new brand identity designed to reflect both where it comes from and where it intends to go next.

Launched in Lagos on August 19, the rebrand introduces a new logomark, logotype and colour system, giving the three-decade-old label a refreshed visual language as it sets its sights more firmly on the international market.

Rather than look outside Nigeria for inspiration, the house turned to one of the country’s most recognisable examples of modernist architecture. The new logomark takes its form from the arched colonnades of Obafemi Awolowo University, whose campus is regarded as an important example of Tropical Modernism in post-independence Nigeria.

Look closely, and there is more going on. The shape resembles an inverted crown, while the letters M-I-M, drawn from the Mimonet name, are worked into the design. It is a clever meeting of architecture, fashion and identity, with the crown motif speaking to the confidence and cultural authority that have long been part of the Odio Mimonet aesthetic.

The house has also introduced a bespoke typeface created specifically for the brand, alongside Sun Red, now designated as its signature colour. Bold and unmistakable, the shade is intended to capture what Odio Mimonet describes as “playful elegance, contemporary luxury, and cultivated individuality.”

For followers of the brand, those qualities will be familiar. Over three decades, Odio Mimonet has developed a recognisable design language built around dramatic silhouettes, rich textiles, colour, intricate embellishment and a distinctly feminine sense of presence. Oseni has also…
