Speaking in Abuja at the National Innovation Hub Standards Framework Validation Workshop, organized by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, emphasized that infrastructure alone cannot deliver sustainable economic growth. The government insists that physical spaces and grassroots communities nurturing young entrepreneurs are the vital missing link required to translate digital talent into global enterprises.

During his keynote address, Dr. Tijani pointed out that while high-growth startups and tech unicorns routinely dominate headlines, the underlying support structures the incubators, accelerators, and co-working spaces are frequently underfunded and overlooked.
“Imagine if we had all the hubs in Nigeria operating at the same level of quality as our top-tier facilities,” Tijani noted, drawing from his background as a former tech hub executive. “There would be far more technology businesses, deeper innovation, and significantly better economic opportunities created across every region of the country.”
While the Federal Government is currently deploying massive capital into foundational tech layers including a planned 90,000-kilometer nationwide fibre-optic network, expanded satellite connectivity, data centers, and digital identity systems Tijani warned that these tools require localized incubators to turn raw connectivity into commercial platforms.
