Dealing with unexpected hair loss feels like a tragedy to many of those who’ve had to face it. Hair is considered a crown to many or the cherry on top that completes the everyday look. Having our hair look the way we want not only boosts confidence, but it’s the final puzzle piece to us feeling like we look our best. But many women have proven hair isn’t a necessity to feel beautiful or to be a boss in your craft.

While some hair loss issues, like high-tension hairstyles and stress, can make hair loss reversible, it’s more difficult with other conditions. Today, several high-profile women have alopecia or other hair loss causes, and some have chosen to embrace their baldness. Celebrities like Jada Pinkett Smith and Ayanna Pressley courageously shared their experience with alopecia and have inspired others to see how bald is beautiful.

There are even women who decided to cut off their hair voluntarily simply because they prefer the bald look. For example, Doja Cat and Cynthia Erivo aren’t experiencing any notable hair loss. Instead, they let go of their hair for personal choice and have stunned on red carpets.

Today we celebrate National Hair Loss Month by sharing 40 Black women whose beauty shines brighter without hair.
