The federal government has moved to resolve critical transmission bottlenecks in Nigeria’s commercial capital, commissioning eight power transformers totaling 840MVA across four key substations in Lagos State.
The installations, supervised by Joseph Tegbe, minister of power, include a total of seven 132/33kV power transformers and a 330kV power transformer projects installed in various substations within Lagos State.
The transformer projects include a 2x60MVA GIS Substation in Apapa, two number 100MVA power transformers in Ijora Substation, 100MVA power transformer at Alausa Substation, and two number 60MVA power transformers at Lekki Transmission Substation.
These projects are expected to add a total of 540MVA transformer capacity at 132kV level with the ability to wheel 432MW and 300MVA transformer capacity at 330kV level with the additional capability to transmit 240MW within the TCN transmission network in the state.
These interventions, Tegbe said, form part of a nationwide effort to remove electricity constraints and unlock growth in Nigeria’s key economic and administrative corridors.
Speaking at the commissioning, the Minister said the interventions represent more than the installation of new equipment “but represent targeted investments in capacity — capacity for businesses to grow, capacity for industries to produce, and capacity for communities to prosper,” Tegbe stated.
At Lekki, the minister noted that the upgrade has effectively doubled the capacity of the Lekki 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation, a…
