One of the shock of the summer transfer window was the decision of Nigeria international striker Akor Adams to swap Spanish LaLiga side Sevilla for newly promoted Italian Serie A side Venezia, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
The decision which was a record transfer for the Italian side left a lot of people stunned, particularly as Akor is coming off a season where he scored ten goals in the LaLiga. More than any other striker at the club.
However the forward has put the whole issue behind him and started his career with Venezia on a high, with a brace and an assist in his debut game for the club against Modena in the Coppa Italia.
Akor while speaking on the game afterwards took out time to explain the rationale behind the shock move from the Spanish side to the Italian side.
“I’m happy to be here and represent this club. It was a tough start, even though we had control of the game. Then, with my goals, we managed to bring home the win, which is what matters. We have a lot to give, and I’m sure it will be a fun season”, he said before explaining his decision to join the team.
*Speaking with Director Antonelli, I understood the importance of this project. We can build something great here; we have a great coach and great teammates. Coach Stroppa pushes us to always do better. The Penzo is a unique stadium. I was very impressed by the fans and also by the uniqueness of arriving here. I want to be a key figure for the team and always look for the goal.
*At this stage, it’s important to understand what kind of demands he makes of us, but I’m sure we’ll be able to develop the style of football he demands of us. “
