The Lagos State Government has partnered with Uncredited Africa, a screenwriting programme launched by Lani Aisida. The partnership would be carried out by two bodies under the government: the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement as well as the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment.
According to a statement by Uncredited Africa, the alliance is “a significant step toward building a sustainable creative economy by equipping emerging writers with the tools, access, and industry pathways needed to thrive professionally”.
Speaking about the development, Aisida said the programme will do more than teach screenwriting. It’s also about “building sustainable careers,” he said. “This partnership with Lagos State is a major step in creating an ecosystem where talented writers are not only trained but also connected to real opportunities to earn, grow, and thrive within the industry.”
Uncredited Africa’s screenwriting project is intended to produce screenplays ready for production. The project will also involve pitch sessions to producers.
“This partnership reflects our continued commitment to engaging young people in meaningful and productive ventures,” said Sholabomi Shasore, who serves as Permanent Secretary at the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement. “Storytelling is a powerful civic tool, and through initiatives like Uncredited Africa, we are not only amplifying voices but also fostering a generation that can shape narratives, influence culture, and contribute to society in impactful ways.”
